UTILX SELLS FIRST IDS RAIL BALLAST RADAR SYSTEM

Utilx is the distributor of IDS GPR systems in the UK and Ireland. They have won work for AMEC amongst others for their conventional GPR systems. However, recently they have sold their first system, which is modified to permit checking of rail ballast whilst being mounted on a locomotive that travels at speeds of up to 80 kph. The system is essentially a standard GPR system but with special software, which can evaluate the mass of radar data from perhaps 30 km of track and identify where there are voids or non-standard ballast conditions.
